The Grant Street Players were created under the watchful eye of Keith Coppage. Keith was a teacher at Mount Diablo High School and as the music and drama programs had less and less of a focus at Mount, he brought the first of many shows to Holy Spirit Church, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat .
Since then, we have been blessed with many productions of musicals which were staged either in church or in the parish hall, now called the Keith Coppage Mission Center. Broadway style shows included Godspell (twice), Working, Smokey Joe's Cafe, It's A Wonderful Life and more. The Grant Street Players also started new traditions at Holy Spirit Church including A Grant Street Christmas and Pentecost Junction concerts.
Beyond their performances, The Grant Street Players provide dramatic readings during services and occasionally take the lead for readings and music throughout the year. During COVID, they got together and created video versions of the gospel that enriched our ZOOM worship immensely.
The spirit of these young adults has blessed us in so many ways, as they have become an integral part of our church life. Several of them have been confirmed in the church and continue to be a part of their local parishes as they move on in their adult lives. At Holy Spirit Church, the Grant Streeters have served on the Bishop's Committee (governing body of the church) and several held youth positions over the years. The Grant Street Players have led us in many of our outreach ministries which have been very successful.
We would not be the Holy Spirit Church community without them and the wonderful gifts of time, treasure and most of all TALENT they share.
